1974 - 5816 N Cherokee Cluster - Virginia Beach VA

My assignment was to Nimitz Pre-Commissioning Unit at Newport News Shipbuilding and Drydock. I decided to buy a townhome in Virginia Beach because USS Nimitz would operate out of Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

I probably paid about $25,000 for this home, which would have been a PITI in 1973 of about $250/mo with VA Loan at (no kidding) 8% interest.

My total pay at that time was $1200/mo, higher than the typical O2 because I had 6-years prior enlisted service. The townhome was brand new, so no maintenance, and tiny yard work.
