Fifty years of solving hard problems. Now helping small business implement AI. Been there, done that.

I spent five decades at the intersection of technology, operations, and leadership — as a nuclear-trained Navy officer, a systems engineer, a small business owner, a federal program director, and a early adopter of almost everything that mattered in computing since 1970. I didn't retire to stop thinking. I retired to think for myself — and occasionally for clients worth thinking with.

What I actually do:

My consulting practice, SantaFeBusiness.ai, focuses on AI strategy, technology adoption, and organizational problem-solving for small to mid-size organizations that need senior-level thinking without a full-time senior-level salary. I'm particularly useful when the problem involves technology that most of your team hasn't caught up with yet, decisions that require pattern recognition across decades rather than quarters, or situations where everyone in the room is being too careful to say the obvious thing out loud.

Who I work with:

Small businesses navigating AI adoption. Any small business or organization modernizing their operations who want best business practices, not cutting edge technology that detracts from the core mission. Leaders who want a straight-talking outside perspective from someone who's actually run things — not just advised people who run things.

The honest pitch:

If you've read anything in The Life or What I Think sections of this site, you already know how I think. That's intentional. The best client relationships start with mutual recognition — you read enough to know whether my kind of thinking is useful to you, and we skip the part where we both pretend to be something we're not.
