Bowie to Annapolis
Traveling the short corridor from Bowie to Annapolis traces the historical transformation from central Maryland’s pastoral roots to the maritime heart of the Chesapeake. Annapolis captivates with brick-lined 18th-century streets, the historic Maryland State House, and the enduring naval tradition embodied by the U.S. Naval Academy. Harbor strolls along "Ego Alley" offer front-row views of sailing craft, fresh regional crab houses, and centuries of maritime craftsmanship. It is an essential visit for anyone who appreciates colonial architecture, rich nautical lore, and authentic bayfront living.
NAVSEA was in the Washington Navy Yard - eastern DC
I knew I wanted to commute with the sun at my back, so we investigated Bowie to Annapolis. Annapolis won and we spent 18 glorious years there (after starting in Edgewater). Best of all worlds: Short (by DC standards), yet near the Chesapeake Bay where we could sail occasionally. A Capital City since the beginning of the Nation, both for the state and for the country, yet still relatively small, we felt right at home.
